Founder Story - the Return to the Artist’s Hand

Dami & Em Design was founded in 2024 with a clear and deliberate intention: to bring the artist’s hand back into contemporary interior surfaces.

In a market increasingly dominated by rapid digital production , we chose a different path — one rooted in craft, authorship and artistic integrity.

At the heart of the studio is Emil, our sole artist.

Every collection begins not on a screen, but on paper. Brush meets pigment. Lines are drawn by hand. Layers build slowly. Each composition is first created as an original artwork before it is carefully translated into large-scale murals, wallpapers and limited wall panels.

This slower process is intentional. Line quality matters. Brush pressure matters. Even imperfection matters. The subtle irregularities that emerge in the act of drawing are never erased — they are preserved. It is this painterly sensitivity that defines the visual language of Dami & Em Design.

Our aesthetic draws quiet influence from Meiji-era decorative arts, classical chinoiserie and impressionistic botanical studies. Yet we do not seek nostalgia. Instead, these references are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens — refined palettes, considered scale and compositions designed to anchor architectural space rather than simply decorate it.

Working closely with interior designers, we adapt each artwork to its environment. Scale is adjusted to respond to ceiling height and proportion. Colourways are refined in context.

Materials are selected with care — from parchment-like substrates to silk-effect finishes and textured grounds, grasscloth, that enhance depth and interaction with light.

For us, the mural is not a backdrop. It is spatial art - It shapes atmosphere. It defines narrative. It creates a moment of pause within a room.

and curated art pieces, reinforcing our belief that walls can function as gallery spaces rather than passive surfaces.

Although Dami & Em Design is a young studio, our philosophy is long-term. We are not trend-led. Every piece originates from a single hand.

These works are not secondary to the brand — they are its source. Painted in layered oils, the compositions explore movement, botanical abstraction and atmospheric depth, allowing colour and brushwork to evolve organically on canvas. Each painting exists as a complete artwork in its own right, often inspiring future murals or limited wall panels. By maintaining an active fine art practice, the studio ensures that every surface design remains rooted in authentic artistic expression rather than decorative repetition.
